A passion for leading and inspiring others drove Rainy Lake Medical Center’s new director of accounting to the position.
Originally from Ghana, David Addo and his family immigrated to the United States in 2009. He lived on the East Coast for several years before attending Concordia University in Moorhead, where he received degrees in accounting and healthcare administration.
“Don’t worry, I’m used to winter,” Addo said with a laugh.
Before joining the team at RLMC, Addo’s professional resume includes working at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Microsoft, Sanford Health and Aramark, which is now Vestis.
While working as a financial analyst at Sanford, Addo had to collaborate with a lot of people, which unlocked a new passion.
“I realized I liked working with people and not just sitting at a computer,” he said. “Then, I got a job as a controller at Aramark and had different accounting clerks reporting to me. That was my breakthrough into leadership… Helping people grow professionally is very rewarding to me.”
When Addo interviewed for the leadership role at RLMC, he said he was immediately impressed with the organization’s culture.
“When I first came here, I really liked the sense of camaraderie. Everyone was so genuine,” he said. “Being around good people helps everyone improve and I could tell that is something everyone here believes. I could tell this was a comfortable environment that encourages growth and everyone works together to achieve the same goal.”
Aside from crunching numbers, Addo enjoys soccer, basketball, listening to music and cooking. He also enjoys almost any outdoor activity and looks forward to becoming part of the International Falls community.
