  • Anesthesia and Pain Management

    Maxwell Gessner, MD


    Maxwell Gessner, MD, completed undergraduate and medical school at the University of North Dakota and received specialized training in anesthesia and pain management at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. As a fellowship-trained and board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Gessner said he provides the highest standard of care to patients suffering from acute, chronic and cancer-related pain.

    Dr. Gessner offers a wide range of interventional pain management procedures, including:

    • Spine Injections: Administered in the epidural space or small joints of the spine to alleviate pain in the back, head, arms, or legs.
    • Joint Injections: Targeting arthritic pain in the spine, hips, knee or shoulders.
    • Muscle and Tendon Injections: For pain relief in specific muscle or tendon areas.
    • Sympathetic Nerve Injections: Addressing conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome, chronic abdominal pain, or pelvic pain.
    • Peripheral Nerve Injections: Helping with chronic headaches, facial pain or nerve entrapment pain.
    • Vertebral Body Procedures: Assisting with fractures or chronic nerve-related pain in the vertebral body.
    • Advanced Procedures: Including spinal cord stimulators and pain pumps for refractory chronic nerve pain and cancer-related pain.

    Daniel Courneya, MD


    Dr. Courneya graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and completed his internship and post graduate work at Hennepin Medical Center. He completed his residency in radiology at Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Courneya interprets images including mammograms, performs pain management injections as well as patient procedures such as biopsies.
