Improved image quality, significant noise reduction and an overall better patient experience are among the many highlights of a new magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, machine at Rainy Lake Medical Center.

RLMC officials said patients began using the new, state-of-the-art Siemens technology May 22.

“This is extremely exciting news for RLMC and our patients,” said RLMC CEO Robb Pastor. “This top-of-the-line system will improve patient comfort and experience.”

The unit’s advanced technology makes exams faster and more efficient, while producing high-quality images.

The new MRI offers a 70-centimeter wide-bore system, meaning more space than the former smaller-bore system.

Other features include:

  • Newer coils that will deliver enhanced image quality and help achieve up to a 40 percent reduction in scan times
  • Advanced noise reduction technologies are present on all Siemens scanners. With Quiet Suite, patients experience a broad range of benefits:
    • Quiet exams for neurology and orthopedics
    • No compromises in image quality
    • Up to 97 percent reduction in sound pressure
  • The new trailer will have a patient skylight and full wall mural in the scan room.

“We understand people may be nervous, concerned or claustrophobic when getting an MRI, and this new technology will allow RLMC to improve that experience for our patients,” Pastor said. “We’re committed to improving healthcare services in our community so patients can receive high-quality care right here at home.”
