Rainy Lake Medical Center, or RLMC, last week received the Community Benefit Award at the annual Minnesota Hospital Association, or MHA, fall awards luncheon in Brainerd.

RLMC’s Healthcare Explorations Class, developed in partnership with Independent School District No. 361, was the project that earned the organization the recognition.

“This program offers high school students a unique opportunity to explore various healthcare careers, providing hands-on experiences in every department, from environmental services to surgery,” said RLMC CEO Robb Pastor.

According to the MHA website, the Community Benefit Award recognizes hospitals that have distinguished themselves through efforts to improve the health and well-being of their communities. Judging is based on the following criteria:

· Promotes and improves the health and well-being of the community.

· Addresses a demonstrated community need.

· Demonstrates a financial and/or resource investment from the hospital to the community.

· Demonstrates a creative approach to meeting the community need.

· Demonstrates a measurable impact on health equity within the community.

Pastor said RLMC exceeded the initial goal of 10 students, with over 30 eager participants enrolled in the course.

“The success of this initiative is a testament to the dedication and passion of our team to support and invest in the future of healthcare in our community,” he said. “This award is also a reflection of all our staffs’ hard work, creativity, and commitment to improving the well-being of our community. I am so grateful that our teams make RLMC a place where we not only provide exceptional care but also inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
